Today, I got things done.
Instagram has now been down for only 5 hours and already I've meal prepped for the rest of the week, answered client emails, sent out two different email campaigns, knocked out two long business calls, wrapped up editing the next two episodes of the Freakin' Nutrition Podcast, and finished up some handy work around the house. The reality is that even while being cognizant of social media's ability to kill productivity, I'm still affected. Even my trips to the bathroom were shorter because there was no scrolling!
Are you affected by time-wasting on social media?
One of the number one reasons people list as to why they are not in shape is due to "a lack of time." Everyone is always short on time. "Between work, the kids, and/or school, who has the time to make it to the gym and meal prep." What most people don't realize is the amount of time that we spend on our phones and TV. That "leisure" time is where you need to be smarter.
Budget YOUR time to reach your goals.
Your leisure time needs to be earned and it should always come after your exercise and nutrition time. If it's important to you, you'll make the time for it. That's just it. Until meal prepping and exercising aren't something you make time for, you will always continue to spin your wheels. It needs to be a part of your routine.
For me, that means I need to budget my time for social media. What does this process look like? I reverse engineer my day my listing the things that must get done.
1. 8 hours of sleep.
2. have breakfast and create to-do list
3.. 1.5 hours for gym
3. clear inbox, answer calls, get through to do list.
4. have dinner with Ashley.
After everything above is taken care of then I have earned my leisure time. That's where social media, Netflix, or Youtube have their place. Does that mean that sometimes Ashley isn't happy because we can't watch TV? Sure but she understands 100% what's important.
In short, I do everything above and yet I still could be more disciplined with my use of social media. It's actually exciting because I know I'll make more progress in my business, health, and relationship. Don't you want the same? Budget your time and make your goals a priority.
